The Blog (Chapters & Feathers)

Here is a little (& I fear maybe slightly self-indulgent) space for me to write to you from time to time.

Chapter 7

Sunday 09.08.26

It’s been a lovely day today. My third fair; this time the Summer Craft Fair at wonderful Henstead Arts & Crafts Centre, following ‘A Day of Magic’ there last month & the ‘Wellness & Wonder’ fair at Ringsfield the month before that.

The summer holidays are in full swing & the sun has been shining & shining (& SHINING!)… I am starting to dream of the crispy Autumn leaves & sorting out the log store.

Chapter 6

Wednesday 17.06.26

A day off my usual work today, & the house to myself. Lots & lots of prep to do for the Wellness & Wonder fair in just a week & a half’s time. I get to spend lots of time making before school pick up… very very exciting.

Chapter 5

Friday 29.05.26

The past month seems to have gone so fast – the beautiful purple lilac blossoms in the garden have been and gone, the bare trees are all covered in a wonderful acid green. The sun has been out in force this past week or so… the seasons are turning.

I’ve been lucky enough to get a table at the Wellness & Wonder fair at Ringsfield Village Hall (Suffolk) on Sunday the 28th of June, & preparations are underway. I’d like to take my typewriters & make up journals for people at the time – people can choose their hexagram or have it divined, select their seaglass & crystal to pair with the type of pages in a journal they like best. I have really been working on paper quills to have for sale at the event – I am just about to list a plain & a typed one on the Etsy shop now to see if there is any interest. The Etsy shop is, as expected, going slowly… but it’s always very lovely when a sale is made.

Chapter 4

Thursday 23.04.26

I have spent the evening trying to create paper feathers which I’ve really enjoyed. This week has included some great beachcombing walks, including one day when I found 22 beautiful pieces – one of which was very very round!

Chapter 3

Thursday 16.04.26

Spring feels like it’s well underway now. Suddenly that beautiful acid green is everywhere. Everything has woken up! Not usually one for cut flowers, I just had to bring one of the tulips from the garden inside to have on the table – it’s been lovely company as I’m making quills.

Today started with a walk along the beach, looking for seaglass. Yesterday I had found none & the day before just the one small piece. So it was a lovely surprise to find lots today – mostly green, as though the shoreline wanted to get on board with the vibrant coastline.

Before I left, the little person in my life had asked me to find a shell, please – I explained that they don’t often turn up, but that I’d look. Inside I hoped for a little shell, asked the universe if it wouldn’t mind helping out… & I had a really lovely surprise on my walk:

Also… the possibility of a table at a local event which sounds really lovely has been mentioned recently; I really hope something comes of it.

Chapter 2

Sunday 22.03.26

The Etsy shop is up & running today! The website has had a good check over & lots of spelling, punctuation & grammar errors have been corrected (I fear there will still be quite a few I have missed though)… I am just about to take the ‘Website under construction’ banner off the landing page! It all feels like a real next chapter for Chapter & Feather!

I’ve wrestled a little bit with doubts about whether anyone will want what C&F is offering… but only time will tell!

In stark contrast, the other side of me has been racing ahead to think about what could come next: make your own journal kits, mini A6 sets, sets with more colourful flyleaf paper, a little range with calligraphy in place of a hexagram, making my own paper! All lovely things to daydream about!

Spring is here too, with a powerful new moon – all about a burst of energy & growth, a time with the potential for significant change!

Chapter 1

Wednesday 25.02.26

Today I saw the very first cherry blossoms of the year – just visible on the trees on the school run. I hadn’t noticed them yesterday at all… but today they were unmissable.

It has been a few weeks of working really regularly on the Chapter & Feather website. A week ago, on the 19th of the month, I completed the 22nd journal set – the point I had decided I needed to reach before shifting a gear in getting things started.

Today I created the skeleton of the Chapter & Feather Etsy shop, & suddenly I find I have only a little more to write to ensure all sections of the site have content. Of course, everything is far from perfect, but I feel I am moving forward & mid-March should be the point of getting things launched.

I need to be a little brave soon too, & take some of the journal sets to some local shops to see if they will be willing to stock a few to see if they sell… we will see!

First cherry blossom of the year – Spring 2026 On the school run.

Very small, very fluffy feather waiting by the front gate when I got home.

Prologue

Monday 02.02.26

I am planning to write in this little blog at least monthly – with each entry as a ‘chapter’ – I’ll also try to include a photo of a feather with each entry too – they do seem to follow me about a lot in recent years, so that shouldn’t be too difficult. As often as I can I’d like to try to use my typewriters for my entries. Aside from that I’m not sure what these ramblings will include… it feels a bit exciting & a bit scary all at once. I’m also very conscious that I may be writing something that no-one else will ever look at… but that actually also seems fine (maybe it will form part of my own journaling).

A month ago I didn’t have a clue where to start with a website – aside from the fact that I wanted it to be a safe & friendly space all about journaling – a very small resource or place to start for those who needed it. I wanted it to be kind. I’d started creating the journal books & feather pens, & working through some of the challenges & problems that needed to be ironed out – gradually finding a simple beauty & balance in the items. I felt, really strongly, that I needed to make them & put them out there – a little offering to the world.

I would love to think that this site might be a little place of solace for someone at the point it is needed, a friend to set them on the path to making regular writing a part of their days.

So, welcome, whoever you may be & wherever you are! Everyone is welcome here.

On a very personal note, when touched by terminal illness & loss in recent years it could feel a very lonely place despite all the wonderful love & support around me… I very much hope these pages & the pages of the journals themselves are a safe & welcoming place for people experiencing difficult times.

Next month I plan to really start trying to get the journals out there! Wish me luck!
